Intensive Five Day Throwing Blocks:
Specifically dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the craft of the potter's wheel for mixed ability groups of beginners, amateurs, undergraduates, teachers and professionals. Courses aim to provide a disciplined and creative environment where students can learn solid, practical skills, and raise their own standards in both the quality and aesthetic integrity of their finished work.
Novices will receive a comprehensive introduction to the basic principles and techniques of the craft, and others, a thorough review of their existing skills before progressing onto new challenges. The course content varies, but in general focuses on the generic forms and techniques – cylinders, bellies, bowls and plates, lips, handles and lids etc. There are regular demonstrations throughout the week. Each student has their own wheel, receives plenty of individual attention and is encouraged to pursue their own agenda.
As Richard is specialist in the medium, a session on slip decoration is commonly incorporated towards the end of the course. There will be a supply of prepared red earthenware clay, but there is stoneware clay available if you prefer to use it.
There is no kiln firing during the week, this is an intensive, making and refining block. Students may take un-fired work home @ £1 per kg, but are encouraged to be selective. Come to work hard and improve your skills dramatically. #
