The emphasis of the day is to allow you to use abundant clay and throw away pieces as you learn and improve. We do not expect you to keep any of the pots but we will assess with you as you go along. In special circumstances will we arrange for bisque firing one piece. A charge is made by weight, but this will take 3 – 4 weeks and must be collected within 2 months.

How do I redeem my vouchers?
You can redeem your gift voucher by booking online for a workshop or course. Once you have added the session or course you would like to attend to your basket you can proceed to the checkout where you will be given the option to enter a ‘Gift or Discount Code’ to redeem your voucher.
Does my gift voucher have an expiry date?
E-vouchers are valid indefinitely. Card vouchers should always be accompanied by a copy of an e-voucher which will contain a booking code. We no longer issue card vouchers without having an e-voucher order. If you do have an old card voucher this will have an expiry date which will be one year from the date that it was issued. Throwing courses and Summer Slipware courses
Are the courses suitable for beginners?
We welcome potters of all levels including complete beginners. Richard Phethean will teach you the basic skills and develop your practice as you
improve. Therse is much that can improve with constant practice, guidance and abundant clay over a 5 or 7 day course Richard has taught many professional potters to improve or refresh and you may come with an aim in mind to improve some aspect of your throwing. Just be clear of this at the beginning and you will be given individual instruction.
What should I bring and wear?
Please bring your own apron (and a spare) as well as a small old towel(s) for wiping your wheel. You should wear comfortable clothes which you don’t mind getting a bit of clay on! Layers can be a good idea as temperatures can be a little variable. All students should wear comfortable, flat shoes with non-slip soles and covered toes, and bring an apron/cover-up. Long hair should be tied back for wheel work. We also recommend that jewellery, watches and other valuables are left at home. Please note we recommend short nails!!!
Food and refreshments?
Courses include a selection of coffee, teas and cake or flapjack available in the kitchen when you require. You can have a break or power on through! It is advisable to leave your wheel and move around regularly. The lunches are served in the house at 1 by Miranda and there will be a hot nutritious vegetarian meal served. Food allergies can be catered for, please let us know.
Do I need to bring any tools?
You will not need to bring any tools as we have everything you need at the studio. You are, however, welcome to bring your own tools if you prefer to use them.
Course structure?
Classes are delivered in a relaxed way and are not too rigid or structured. We feel that it’s important for students to be able to work on their own practice and at their own pace. Depending on the needs of the group Richard will pause to give a demonstration or a short talk on ceramics practice.
Are firings included?
We expect you to take work that you want you keep away unfired apart from the summer slipware course where firing is included
